Dr. Heath Donald: I was born and raised in Meridian, Mississippi. I grew up with a female Golden Retriever named Sunny that was a big influence on my life in pursuing a career in veterinary medicine, as through her I learned that I loved to help and care for all animals. I worked as a kennel technician and veterinary assistant during high school and also some during my undergraduate years of college at Till-Newell Animal Hospital in Meridian, MS. I attended Mississippi State University for my bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences in 2013, and then I obtained my doctorate of veterinary medicine from Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine in May 2016.
I worked for one year in Fairfax, Virginia at Pender Veterinary Centre, which is a very large general veterinary practice that is open 24/7. During that year I saw regular appointments such as wellness/preventative medicine, was in charge of hospitalized patients that were post-op surgery care or critical hospitalized cases as a treatment doctor, and also saw emergencies that came in such as hit by cars, blocked cats, etc. as an emergency doctor. I have a strong interest in internal medicine and preventative/wellness care. After a year of great experience and learning in Virginia, I felt it was time to come back to the south to be closer to family.
